Joop's Dog Log - Friday May 21

Listen to young humans if you want to find out what`s coming.
The Dutch like to do opinion polls.
Two recent surveys of teachers and students show results that are newsworthy.
The first one proves that teenagers in The Netherlands are more afraid of
George W. Bush than they are of Osama bin Laden.
They believe GWB is a bigger threat to world peace than Osama.
The second survey shows that Dutch teenagers are increasingly anti-islam
and anti-Arab fundamentalism, and that they make no secret of this at school.
So on one hand Dutch youngsters are unhappy about the way Bush`s America
is fighting the war against terrorism.
And on the other hand they say no to the radical islamic Arabs.
So will the future be better?

Goedemorgen JOOP.

Moin Joop, your "Wort zum Sonntag" already on Friday? First of all please let me tell you that I can only love a country where dogs are allowed to accompany their humans to the cemetry (or is it just an exhibition, I can`t see any flower???) - my Dad Heinzi would have had appriciated Bosse & Pelle to pay a visit at his grave!!! He would have loved us to come to him with redwine, cheese, cigarettes and baguette, but no dogs allowed in Germany! On the other hand I am not sure that my young (female)collegues in their early twenties do have an opinion of their own: they are so busy with their new boyfriends or marriages, car tuning, leghair shaving, hair dying, SMS writing, watching endless soaps on TV,headbanging all night long and more of this very important stuff...never heard them talking about any politics while eating their dead white bread, junk food from Aldi with plastic limonade....CONGRATULATION DUTCH!

but being anti-arab is racist!...?

Yes, but anti-Arab is not a GOOD THING. Anti-fundamentalism in ANY FORM (western or eastern) IS a good thing. There is racism in Europe just like in America. I saw it when I lived there last year. At the same time, I understand it on several levels. Still, it`s NOT a good thing. Not at all. Joop, you look cute today! I love taking pictures in old cemetaries. :-)

They sound like confused young kids... I agree with Jackie... Anti-fundamentalism is a good thing. What GWB is doing is fundamentalism as well.. The only difference is that he is not calling his god Allah, but God.

If everyone stop saying "we should do this or that" and actually do something, even a small thing, for sure this world can be a good world to live in the future... but it seems that everyone is so busy with their daily stuffs that sometimes they can`t even realize what`s happening beside them... its so sad but true... well, at least I can say that for what I see here in Brazil... nicki

Interesting photo today, Joop. I think young people are more able to see things as black and white, and so still believe there is a better alternative to fundamentalism, organized religion, and GWB. They still believe (as I do) that we can evolve. Thank god for young people. They also pet me longer. -Sarah.

I must take issue with a few of your words, dear Joop. We are NOT "bush`s America". We are America who happens to have a very, very incompetent president right now. We are an America with a wonderful people and past. We love our freedom and hope to reclaim our honor and dignity very soon...in November...and perhaps we have learned a lesson about how we choose our leaders.

perhaps their priorities are right in principle - to reject imposed fundamentalist beliefs. but it`s a bit of a worry that they target islamic fundamentalism specifically - and shows that both bush and bin laden`s agendas are succeeding: promote fear and instability to seize power. a different kind of power for each, but still ... (and it shows how the contradictory media angles can manifest themselves in received wisdom among its consumers - or is it the other way around? life imitating art or vice-versa?)
the whole planet has a lot of collective learning to do before we can all live in peace. multiculturalism, and how each country deals with it, is a key element of any growth or decay. i fear there will be a lot more mistakes made until the lessons are truly learned, if ever. but nature is strong, and will fill our place when we`re gone. hopefully the canine species can do better as the dominant life-form : )

Interesting poll results. I saw a flyer today that had pictures of GWB and Osama side by side. Under GWB it said "Good Terrorist". Under Osama it said "Bad Terrorist". What does that mean Joop????
I also saw a really interesting grafitti image for HUMMMERS (those pathetically big cars Americans seem to like??).....Care to see it, send me a pmail, It's very sad!

So ironic. No one is happy with the way things are but no one can agree on how to make it "better". So..... there it is. We continue to push and hate. Go for a sniff Joop. That's what Bruiser says. Going to the lake Saturday!
