Joop's Dog Log - Sunday May 09

Oh boy, yesterday was a great day. I`m still tired...
My human and I strolled around in the historic section of Deventer.
He was born in that city. It was nostalgia for him,
and a lot of sniffing and marking for me.
The church you see behind me is the `Bergkerk` (`Mountain church`,
in The Netherlands even an ant hill would be called a mountain..)
The church has two towers. They represent two very rich sisters
who donated the money for the church in the 12th century.
According to a legend one sister died before the church was finished.
The other sister then ordered `her` tower to be made two meters taller than her sister`s tower.
Which is why the towers are not the same height today.
What does this story tell you about humans?
Have a great Sunday everybody. I need more sleep!

Good morning Joop... Deventer indeed is lovely city, with a nice historic center. I was there a few times. That story about the sisters makes me sad. But I wish you and your humans a good day.

Goedemorgen Joop. Zo dus jij bent gisteren in Deventer geweest. Dien.

Moin Joop! In Germany this is called "Zicken-Alarm" = no woman no cry! Nice town where your human comes from and obviously also a good dog-town! Bosslady comes from Hamburg and there nearly everything is forbidden for dogs, no good city for wild boys. We have been thinking of this tennis court job for years, but this is nothing for us cause they want us to sit politely at EVERY weather off the court. No cat chasing, no digging no sausages stealing...the other dogs passing by barking DO DISTURB the concentration of the other players! Sometimes we have the impression that tennis kill normal brain function...

Feeling kinda lost Joop??? Great story about the church... When I was in Italy, in Ascoli Piceno, this city is known as "the tower`s city", because of the many many towers that it has. They say that in the past, all the rich families built towers to show their power to society. And the higest tower represented the ultimate power... so they continued to fight against them to see which family could built the highest one... Today only a few still stands... Culture for those who appreciate like we do right Joop?? Happy Mother`s Day from Brazil!! au au au, Nicki.

What a funny story about the two sisters...something to be learned about human nature (particularly in families) form that tale. I`m so glad you had a good day, Joop, and what I notice in this picture is what good shape your human keeps you...you are just perfect, not an ounce of fat on you. Very handsome...and happy, that tail NEVER stops wagging except maybe when you`re sleeping, but then that I would not know.

Imagine if both sisters had lived another 10 years, just how tall you suupose both towers would have grown? Funny stuff that. Eight centuries later, who remembers which tower belonged to which sister? I echo Ann, you do always look handsome, Joop. Must be all that thinking you do.

It is so fascinating how much history there is in Europe. Here everything over 50 years old is considered Very Old. Of course there were aboriginal peoples here thousands of years ago, and their history is fascinating too.

Joop, you don`t need more training to be a show dog. They work for cookies, you know.
But really, you are so much better then they are! Smarter, and you have so many more friends and adventures.
Also: There was a Dutch flat-coat at the show where Heather went. He is very famous in the breed, although he was not the top dog this time.

Hey Joopster. You are one pampered pooch with all these websites! Whew!
I cannot think too long and too hard about Iraq, because the fact that I do not know all the facts almost paralyzes me and I try to remember that human life has value and concentrate on taking care of Matty. The fact that atrocities a million times worse were committed by Iraquis, who are hell-bent on killing their own people especially the innocents, also paralyzes me---although it excuses nothing that the American and British soldiers did. I hate the media. I want out, but I do not want to abandon any hope for the Iraquis to rebuild their infrastructure. I am so confused, none of this is even an opinion. Oh hell.

Imagine the impact on history's verdict if she'd had her dead sister's tower placed above her own.

Sibling rivalry LOL
Thank you for the history lesson, Joop
