The Staircase Group, a double portrait painted by Charles Wilson Peale
in 1795, shows his sons Raphaelle and Titian. The portrait is painted
in the trompe l'oeil style, an art technique using realistic imagery, like the step
in the foreground, to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects exist
in three dimensions. Additional photos from Philadelphia are in my Cities, places gallery.
