A town very close to the Austrian border, Sopron voted in 1921 to become part of Hungary rather than Austria, although German street and shop signs are much in evidence here. It has Roman ruins and walls as well as medieval buildings and is one of Hungary's oldest cultural centers. I have included quite a few images of the streets of Sopron, with their lovely old buildings; this is what I found to be the charm of the old town. Oddly enough, they were almost deserted, except for tourists or the odd person.
