National Guard is still patrolling DC

More than a year after the president declared a “crime emergency” in Washington, D.C., and called up the National Guard, between 2,500 and 3,000 guardsmen are still here, patrolling tourist attractions, parks, neighborhoods and Metro stations, at a reported cost of some $1 million a day.

There were 11 soldiers in Lincoln Park on the day this picture was taken.

Nothing better to do.

I think if a streaker ran by none of those guys would notice. The word "vigilant" doesn't seem to apply here.

Is the presence of so many soldiers really necessary, given that the location and its surroundings appear to be quiet and calm? V

The soldiers’ presence feels intrusive amid the quiet neighbourhood surroundings....it raises uncomfortable questions about its continued necessity and the burden on taxpayers....V

Their presence is quite unsettling. A well documented scene. V

I heard it was nearly 3 Million dollars per day.

Hmm, patrolling seems to involve conversational squads of three in close proximity to one another.

Not a very pleasing scene.

Very nice candid of our great American soldiers patrolling Washington DC.
News media say crime is down in DC due to the military presence.
