Crafted by Beth Grabau of Adel, IA, this miniature recreates her grandmother’s laundry room in a pump house on the family farm, including embroidered tea towels, fresh farm eggs, jars of canned food and braided rugs made from scraps, all emblems of her grandmother’s daily life.
One of the many displays in the Renwick Gallery’s new exhibition, “State Fairs: Growing American Craft,” dedicated to artists’ contributions to the great U.S. tradition of state fairs with more than 240 artworks on view, dating from the mid-nineteenth century to the present.
