One of the displays in the Renwick Gallery’s new exhibition, “State Fairs: Growing American Craft,” this one is situated outside the museum on Pennsylvania Avenue NW.

Pictured is one of the new, size 96 boots first worn in 2013 by Big Tex, who has welcomed visitors to the State Fair of Texas since 1952. The new boots feature signature motifs from the state: the flag; the capitol build in Austin; the state flower, a bluebonnet; and the state bird, the northern mockingbird. Created by the Texas Scenic Company in Boerne, Texas.
