We were supposed to leave earlier, but I wanted to stay to receive my master’s degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) in person. This picture, taken by the university, had some real problems that I tried to fix, not entirely successfully. In any case, we left Tokyo immediately after the ceremony for DC and Turkish language training, followed by a four-year posting to Ankara, then back to Japan (Okinawa) for three more years.
