Tim decided to go back to Old Diriyah, where he had been on his last trip here in February and where we used to visit quite frequently when we lived In Riyadh. He was last there at night, so he wanted to see it during the day, but unfortunately it didn’t open until 6 p.m. (Since several people have commented on the woman in slacks, I'm sure beyond a doubt that she was a foreigner.)
The Turaif district of Old Diriyah was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010 and underwent an extended period of restoration that is still ongoing. Diriyah was the original home of the Saudi royal family and served as the capital of the first Saudi dynasty from 1744 to 1818.
