Cook’s Bay, Moorea

Cook's Bay is a three-kilometer-long bay on the north coast of the island of Mo'orea. It was named after the British explorer James Cook. Cook's party visited Mo'orea during Cook's first voyage in 1769 to observe the transit of Venus, but Cook himself did not visit the island until his third voyage. He landed in Opunohu Bay on September 30, 1777 but later visited what is now Cook's Bay by land. (from Wikipedia)

THIS is the Tahiti I remember!!! Of course, without whatever buildings (I assume hotels) is off to the left... I'm amazed how much development happened so quickly in so very short of time. Things went from almost pristine (when we were there) to touristy. However, the natural scenery is unforgettable. And unchangeable. I really need to look for my own old prints that show things "before".

Where was this scene shot from? The Tahara'a had an amazing view of Cook's Bay and of Moorea. That was one thing I loved about it. Were you on the ferry back to the main island? It seems like you're looking toward Moorea.

Marvelously dramatic how fast the mountains slide down to the water.
