Ben’s Chili Bowl, an integral part of the U Street (NW) community since 1958, has a branch on H Street NE, some 10 blocks from our house. I had posted a picture of a panda in front of their main eatery last year, and it turns out there’s one here, too.

We’ve never eaten at Ben’s but decided when I took this picture that we should go in sometime for some half-smokes, which we really like. According to Wiki: “A half-smoke is a ‘local sausage delicacy’ found in Washington, D.C., and the surrounding region. Similar to a hot dog, but usually larger, spicier, and with more coarsely-ground meat, the sausage is often half-pork and half-beef, smoked, and served with herbs, onion, and chili sauce.”
