A bit worse for wear

We actually found a few butterflies at the National Arboretum, unlike every place else we’ve visited recently. This one’s pretty beat up, but I thought it was interesting to see how it works on the flower.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by PBase are decidedly
unsharp.

Just like old times, posted earlier:

Nikon Z 7 ,Nikkor AF-S 300/4E PF ED VR with FTZ adapter
1/800s f/5.6 at 300.0mm iso160 full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

A great pose with the focus on the feeding. The wings might be tattered, but there's still plenty of life for this little beauty (now immortalized by this pretty image!)

A lovely sharp photo. Swallowtails visiting my yard always seem to have damage on their wings also.

Its wings have been roughed up but it’s still a lovely photo.

Nice perched butterfly hanging on hopefully to the end of the season.
Nice detailed capture and nice in the portrait mode composition.
