The one bright spot in a big disappointment

Another disappointing result in our back garden this year. This was one of two flowers we got on our rose bush, which not only didn’t produce roses but shot its stems (or whatever they’re called) way up in the air and over our fence, to the point that everything had to be cut off. The woman who does some gardening for me had pruned it last winter, but I think I’ll do it myself this year because this has never happened before with this bush, which was already here when we bought our house in 1988.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly
unsharp.

As the saying goes: "If you want the job done right, do it yourself." At least you got one lovely photograph out of it. V

A beauty, but maybe old age is creeping up on it.

A beautiful rose well captured Helen. That's a lot of years you have gotten from that rose bush.

What a gorgeous rich colour. Gardening…there’s always next year.

Does this rose bloom on old or new wood? Some large climbers bloom on old wood (canes) only. Newer roses are more likely to bloom on new wood. Once you figure that out, Google when then best time to prune and how much to prune. Lovely photo here! V

at least you havemore buds developing...perhaps it was not pruned severely enough if the stems were so long yet flowerless..

I can almost smell it!
