‘Petal to the Metal!’ David Greenfieldboyce

We found this sculpture near the Metro in Shaw. Tim wondered why I made him drive all over trying to find it ;-).

Says the artist: “As someone who likes to build things, I wanted to treat the sculpture as an object instead of a canvas. I liked the visual pun of a delicate blossom built out of heavy steel plates. That design was too joyless and unbeautiful for such a fun project, so I let some cherry branches punch their way through the grim exterior!”

*****

This is the time of year for Washington’s wildly popular Cherry Blossom Festival, but unfortunately it has once again been canceled due to the pandemic. The public has been asked not to enjoy the blossoms at the Tidal Basin but instead to view “Art in Bloom,” 26 cherry blossom sculptures painted by local artists and placed in locations throughout DC and adjacent neighborhoods.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly
unsharp.

Interesting metal sculpture looks to be assembled in sections with with rivets.
Love that little Redbud tree painted on the artwork.
Nice sharp shot.

This is a close second to the one I called “Voluptuous”. If given to me, I would still find a spot for it in my front yard. V
