Camped out

National Guardsmen posted near the Capitol, the dome of which can (barely) be seen through the trees. They were keeping some 5,000-7,000 of them in Washington through the impeachment trial, but that’s over and they’re still here. Taken right after we drove by some new congressional office buildings that we didn’t even know existed. The sheer extent of the fencing is even bigger than we had imagined – three miles in total.

*****

We drove down towards the Capitol to see what the area looked like six weeks after the insurrection on Jan. 6, thinking that perhaps some of the security precautions had been removed. Instead, what we found was even more fencing and security measures to prevent the public from getting anywhere near the US Capitol, congressional offices and federal buildings. Quite frankly, I was appalled to see the extent of it.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly
unsharp.

Now there’s ‘protection’ from pedestrians, posted earlier:

They should play the song all fenced in .
Nice photo Helen I think there will be some pressure in the
near future about the fencing and the military.
Bet they would love to see there families again.

From this distance these fences look so high and mess up the view of the interesting buildings !!V

I’ll bet you’re not alone in wanting some normal streets and views.

Makes you wonder what sort of current threats the agencies are worried about.
