National Guardsmen posted near the Capitol, the dome of which can (barely) be seen through the trees. They were keeping some 5,000-7,000 of them in Washington through the impeachment trial, but that’s over and they’re still here. Taken right after we drove by some new congressional office buildings that we didn’t even know existed. The sheer extent of the fencing is even bigger than we had imagined – three miles in total.

We drove down towards the Capitol to see what the area looked like six weeks after the insurrection on Jan. 6, thinking that perhaps some of the security precautions had been removed. Instead, what we found was even more fencing and security measures to prevent the public from getting anywhere near the US Capitol, congressional offices and federal buildings. Quite frankly, I was appalled to see the extent of it.
