US Capitol: the new normal?

We went down to the US Capitol, or at least as close as we could get, to see what things looked like. I'd have to say it was an almost surreal way to spend a Sunday afternoon -- photographing the many Capitol Police, National Guardsmen, Metropolitan Police, military trucks, police cruiser roadblocks and high fences that now populate our beautiful city. I'm hoping that we can all come together as a country and put a quick end to this kind of thing because this is no way to live.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly
unsharp.

Want a passport? Good luck with that, posted earlier:

it is not nice what you are experiencing for the moment, but the first step has been taken and gone well, I think you will all find the strength to reverse this drama and become the great nation of the past, I believe stuck in it. BV

Beautiful image, Helen! V

It’s so strange to see our beautiful capital turned into a dystopian scene. V

This image of the Capitol is magnificent. It would be even more beautiful without the army, but it seems necessary !

Such a pity it has to be in this way, hope it's safe. It felt quite scary what happened on the 6th! I used to visit DC fairly often and encountered it very pleasant!

Your shots are telling a story that won't be forgotten any time soon. Whatever the new normal is, who knows, but surely better than living in what resembles a state of siege. V

Reminded me as a kid in Vietnam during the war with all the barricades and troops...so sad

I fear this really may be the new normal for longer than imagined. I'm no longer as optimistic as I was before 1-06.

A beautiful documentary shot......just hope things will be back to normal after the inauguration....V

A view for the history books! Since both ends of the spectrum are not willing to compromise, this will be the
"new normal," to use a current cliche.´

an ugly scene in more ways than one, yet the light is so pleasing...what a lot of contradictions these days..

Surely any idea of violence will fizzle at the sight of this massive response to Jan 6th. Stay safe.

Quite a site. It's kind of hard to fathom in a lot of ways. I'm glad we have you there to document all of this for us. ~BV~

A sight I thought I would never see. I hope the inauguration goes smoothly and the pages of this chapter in history will never be reopened again. V

Right now I am so grateful to be living where I live, and not in a big city, especially not DC!

Very disturbing situation. V

Surreal is an apt description. Stay safe.

An impressive view but also a disturbing one.
