Tim and I searched for this mural of George Washington for at least an hour and even went back to the reported address again to make sure we hadn’t just missed it, but finally had to conclude it no longer existed in the large construction site we found there.

I don’t know who took this photograph since a number of websites have it or almost identical pictures posted. Unfortunately, none of them said the mural had been destroyed.

Naturally some murals in DC are now gone, but I’m posting a picture of this one in particular because it’s the one that sparked my interest in murals outside of Capitol Hill and set us on a far-ranging search to find and photograph them.

This “funk-a-fied” George Washington was created by LA-based artist Mark Paul Deren, aka Madsteez, as part of the 2016 Pow! Wow! international mural festival.

unsharp.
