The catch

Tim and I walked around an area called The Yards, on the Anacostia River, that has simply exploded with development since we’ve been back from Riyadh. While heading for a shot of Nationals Stadium, we happened to see this egret fishing on the river. I may post other pictures of him, but this was my favorite. I actually jumped when he did this so am amazed I got anything, and I really shouldn’t crop iPhone pictures this much, but with this kind of subject, it’s necessary. I didn’t bring my camera because I was sure I wouldn’t see anything that required a long lens. Lesson learned.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.

Nice location for the Egret a place to perch no movement in the water making a catch more possible for a meal.
Nice iPhone capture regardless of the crop.

Nice catch! Sure hope he got something edible and not the garbage floating in the waters.

It's always the way Helen, how many times we wished we had another camera or lens on hand for special moments. This is an excellent capture of the action with your iPhone! V

A good optical zoom is something I long for in my next phone camera - that seems to be the most difficult thing for the manufacturers to develop. Super wide for me is really not necessary, but most cameras have super wide lenses. I do like the fact that I can blue the backgrounds of my Samsung phone images using its "live focus" option, but on my IPad I can only blur the backgrounds of selfie pictures (ridiculous). The blurred background makes the images look less phone-camera-like.
