‘Buffalo Bill House’

Richard Rothwell, a talented builder and stonemason, built 28 9th St. NE for his large family of seven children in 1874. Rothwell worked on many residences and public buildings in Washington, including the US Capitol and the National Building Museum. William Frederick Cody, aka Buffalo Bill, stayed at the Rothwell residence frequently during the years of his Wild West Show. Anna Rothwell, daughter of Richard Rothwell, married William Peake, who was a business partner of Buffalo Bill’s. Thus, the home began to be known as the “Buffalo Bill House.”

This house is directly across the street from a small park I sometimes take Sahraa to, but I had no idea Buffalo Bill used to stay there.

A lovely residence, I love the treatment in the stone work above the windows and doorway, those small dormers are really neat and that decorative metalwork above the bay window is beautiful.

Handsome architecture. But I don't understand that little "balcony". Are you supposed to crawl out the window? Or is it for plants?
