I found this quilt particularly interesting because it depicts our own neighborhood on Capitol Hill. The park just slightly to the right of center is Lincoln Park, and we live a half block from there. I can see a foreclosed house on our block, which was a derelict building that’s been renovated into a beautiful home. Most of the foreclosures, however, are north and east of us in the poorer part of Northeast DC.

Clark began to make her Foreclosure Quilts in 2007 to document the effects of the economic recession on the American landscape. By 2015 the mortgage crisis had faded from the news despite the ongoing distress of many homeowners, and Clark crafted this piece to keep the tragedy in the public eye. She chose quilting for its humble, utilitarian value and domestic associations. Her quilts document actual foreclosures from neighborhoods across the country.
Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.
