‘Fibers and Civilization,’ Sabrina Gschwandtner, 1959 (1/3)

The first of three pictures of this artwork, my favorite in the entire exhibit: a quilt made from 16 mm film and polyamide thread.

*****

The Renwick Gallery is a branch of the Smithsonian American Art Museum dedicated to exhibiting American contemporary craft, celebrating makers taking both innovative and time-honored approaches to their work. The building housing the Renwick – a National Historic Landmark -- is located steps from the White House in the heart of historic federal Washington. It was designed by architect James Renwick Jr. in 1858 and was the first building in the United States built specifically to be an art museum.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.
