Figurehead on the bow of the Joseph Conrad

Seen at Mystic Seaport in Mystic, Connecticut. I always thought figureheads on the bows of ships were women, but obviously not. See previous picture for a full view of the ship.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.

Cooperative leaves, posted earlier:

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Great details in this neat figurehead. I was also thinking that it was a bit unusual to see a man on the bow of a ship! V

It is the only male figurehead I’ve heard of. Two nice photos of the ship.

perhaps Conrad himself watching for perils at sea....a scantily clad damsel would have been preferable...to some..
