Tribute to Sam, the kidnapped bald eagle

Sam, a 35-year-old bald eagle with a wing that was partially amputated after he was shot in 1988, was a resident of the Quogue Wildlife Refuge for 31 years. In the early hours of July 16, an intruder cut open two layers of fencing in his enclosure and kidnapped him. Although there is a reward of $20,000 for his return, he hasn’t been seen since. I was heartbroken when I read about this in DC and simply couldn’t imagine who would do such a thing, but apparently there is a black market for bald eagle feathers in the US…

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.

Eye of the hawk, posted earlier:

This is really awful that someone shot it in 1988 and it had been protected since then at this refuge. But then for someone to come and steal it 31 years later is just sick....I hope they find it.

Oh, that is appalling, really, really awful. I can't fathom the greed of someone who'd treat a living creature this way.
