Lockhouse 33

We also went across the Potomac River to the Maryland side, where the old Chesapeake & Ohio Canal runs. This is a picture of Lockhouse 33, adjacent to Lock 33, visible in some of the old paintings of Harpers Ferry such as the one a few images back.

From the C&O Canal Trust: “Lockhouse 33 played an important role in John Brown's Raid on Harpers Ferry as John Cook, one of Brown's crew, worked here prior to the raid to gather information on the armory. Today, you can see the lock and the iron gate that closes the bypass flume.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.

Great image of this old stone building. Great that it's still standing. V

All that stonework... standing strong despite being enveloped in greenery. V

seems worth preserving, moreso than has apparently been done so far..

All of the above, and more, is why I really enjoyed that area. So much history compared to my native California, as well as beautiful surroundings. Great capture. V
