Harpers Ferry of the past

I thought this painting reproduction was interesting for showing what Harpers Ferry looked like in the first half of the 19th century, before the Civil War. It depicts the site of the armory (previous/below picture) and looks down the Potomac River to the confluence with the Shenandoah. The original painting belongs to the Maryland Historical Society, artist unknown, created ca. 1845-1860.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.

It's a beautiful area. I liked the fact that you could drive through parts of four states near there. The history of the area is compelling. Thanks for sharing. V
