White House of the Confederacy

The White House of the Confederacy – now overshadowed by a hospital -- is a historic house in Richmond, Virginia. Built in 1818, it was the main executive residence of the sole president of the Confederate States of America, Jefferson Davis, from August 1861 until April 1865. It was viewed as the Confederate States’ counterpart to the White House in Washington, D.C.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.

An interesting piece of history. It really does look like it being crowded out by development.

A very nice capture of this historic house! Wonder when it will offend someone and it will be torn down...

not quite the peak of 19th century architecture, yet an historical structure to be treasured..

The United States would not be anyone without the Confederation. Beautiful picture, Helen! V

Interesting to see this. Hopefully, it is viewed simply as a historical artifact, and not as a memorial to the good old times.
