Memorial to Jefferson Davis

This is an elaborate memorial to Jefferson Davis, who served as the only president of the Confederate States from 1861 to 1865.

*****

On Sunday we went to Richmond, the capital of Virginia and former seat of the Confederacy during the Civil War. We have owned a house here for 30 years but had never made the two-hour drive down there, so took the opportunity to when I had an unexpected day off from work.

Tim wanted to see the confederate statues on Monument Avenue before they're taken down or destroyed or whatever is going to happen to them, and I wanted to see the regional museum's famous collection of Fabergé eggs, both of which we did. There's also a well-regarded botanic garden there, but we just didn't have time to visit. Something for another trip, I guess.

This is a very impressive monument and a well done (as usual) image.
I do not like the ideas of removing confederate memorials and monuments. They are part of the US history, for good or bad.

A very fine capture, Helen! I am shocked that this hasn't been torn down! Surely it offends someone..

Beautiful view of this memorial. If there can be statues and memorials to Jefferson Davis how come there are no memorials and statues to Benedict Arnold? Weren't they both traitors to our country? That being said I don't necessarily think memorials should be taken down, just make sure all the history and facts are there to be taught to everyone. V
