Really red

Thanks to Raymond for the identification of these ricin seeds. I thought they were quite attractive.

*****

We returned once again to the Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens, the home of Marjorie Merriweather Post, legendary heiress of General Foods, diplomat, philanthropist and distinguished collector of French and Russian art and jewelry. We wanted to see a Fabergé exhibit going on there and also enjoyed walking through the grounds and hothouse to and from.

Yes, it sure looks like the Castor-oil Plant (Ricinus communis) which grows wild as an introduced weed along waterways in the seasonal tropics here http://www.pbase.com/donfranklin/image/165537413). I wasn't aware of the ricin poison connection, but looking it up, sure enough ...

Ricin seeds, actaully, once rafined, and to do that, it requieres a government controlled lab, like say in Russia, and once rafined, it becomes THE DEADLIEST poison to humans, a drop as small as the head of a pin will kill you. Remember the Russian umbrella murder in England way back when, that's what it was, ricin.
