The joke was on me!

I’m posting this last picture of the gallery sort of as a joke, but it does reflect the reality of my introduction to Morocco. We had organized this trip through a tour operator for various reasons; Tim had made the flight reservations, and I never looked at flight times, etc. Usually I’m pretty up on geography, but my thinking was this: Morocco is in North Africa, Saudi Arabia is right across the Red Sea from Egypt, also in North Africa; therefore, it should be a short flight to Casablanca. I was floored when I looked at the map in the plane, indicating a seven-hour flight! I hadn’t realized that Morocco was on the Atlantic Ocean, and that we had to cross the entire African continent, at almost its widest point, to get there. So much for my geography skills.

I should mention that the trip took even longer than it should have because we had to avoid Libya, so went up to Malta and back down. Then, Saudia Airlines wasn't aware that Morocco was on daylight saving time, so our arrival time was off by an hour...

Anyway, I am finally finishing this Morocco gallery, which has turned out to be a four-month project. I’d like to thank everybody for taking the trip with me and for all the interest shown in my adventures there. It’s a place I’d go back to at the drop of a hat, and since our trip to Tunisia has been put on hold for the foreseeable future, we just might do that later in the year.

Too funny, Helen. Your map certainly illustrates just how large Africa is. Good idea to avoid flying over Libya!! You certainly got some wonderful photographs on your adventure.
Morocco is a fascinating country. Thanks for the tour!

Worth the long journey for the images you have got.

I would have thought that Saudi to Morocco was a short hop, too!

Yes, a long flight can be a bit of a schlep. But it paid off in the end.

seven hours on board can stretch the patience...interesting arc to the route, much more Med than land below, and seemingly less direct..

I hope you were not flying all the time above the desert....V
