I didn’t take a lot of pictures inside the souq itself, mainly because we went to the gold souq, the bird souq and the falcon souq and not much to the rest of where they sold clothing and general merchandise. This was taken on the outer rim of the complex. I found it interesting both here and in Oman that women didn't seem to mind that their inner garments were visible. That wouldn't happen in Saudi Arabia.
Souk Waqif is a major attraction in Doha for tourists and locals alike. There has been a souk on this spot for centuries, but at one point the old complex was close to being condemned for demolition, until some enterprising person realized its potential and redeveloped it to resemble a 19th century souk complete with mud-rendered shops, exposed beams and restored Qatari architecture. The souk keeps expanding, and despite the redesigned construction, Souk Waqif is considered to be one of the most traditional marketplaces in the region.
