We drove way out to see this unique shopping mall called Villaggio, which is modeled on Venice, complete with canals and gondolas, Italian facades and a cloudy blue sky on the ceiling. “No photography” was clearly posted in English at the door, so at first I was being very surreptitious, with Tim on the lookout for building security. Then I realized that everybody was taking pictures, and even asking mall employees to do group photos for them. Still, one needs to be cautious in this part of the world. I had gotten stopped the day before by a guard for some government intelligence facility whose property I had wandered on to. He demanded to see my photos, and luckily I hadn’t taken any of their building, so he let us go, but made us move to the other side of the street.
