Shut down

The Lincoln Memorial, like all other national parks, museums, monuments and federal offices, has been closed because of the US Congress's failure to fund the US government for the coming fiscal year. There was a member of the House of Representatives doing a fundraiser this morning at the hotel and another one this evening, so at least they're able to continue with their most important activities. Oh, and members of Congress are considered "essential" and still get paid although other federal employees may not.

Most would call it discrimination, but they have deemed themselves essential, have to keep up their standards even though most could still live well without government pay!

Look on the bright side - there are no people on your shot :-) We've survived shutdowns before and we will again...

I agree with Jim, get rid of them all! On Saturday when I saw this there were hundreds of people on these steps. So sad.
Sam Rua01-Oct-2013 23:09
This is a sad commentary to the current political situation. On a personal level, I am glad this didn't happen when I was there last week because I would have been pissed with all of the government building closures. That's no way to treat the people being governed.
Jim Coffman01-Oct-2013 22:24
If I had my way, they would all be out of work!!!
Mairéad01-Oct-2013 22:08
