Gyöngyös, 'Pearl' Gateway to the Mátras Hills

Gyöngyös is a small northern city on the way to northeastern Hungary. We stopped there by default as it was pouring further east, so we turned around after determining that the shop we wanted to visit was closed further up the road and decided to stop and see what was in Gyöngyös. It's famous for its white wines and for being the gateway to the Mátras Hills. The city's name is taken from the Hungarian word for pearl.
