Established in 1866, the zoo is one of Budapest's main attractions and is always packed with people. It's quite nicely laid out, with good displays, and is a pleasant place to spend an afternoon wandering around. I love animals but in truth went there for the famed architecture, and the zoo didn't disappoint. Among its most fantastic buildings is the elephant house, which was so fascinating I've made a separate sub-gallery here just for that. Sadly, only the entrance and the elephant house remain from what I understand was once a collection of elegant buildings.
