Mom's new cutting board. To be shipped with "care and feeding instructions" this coming week.
Care and Feeding means how to maintain the board in a "food safe" manner. Currently I've treated
this one with a mineral oil and wax "finish". Mineral oil is food safe and won't go rancid. The
melted in parafin wax helps to seal the fibers against moisture intrusion. The recommendation with a
new cutting board is to apply mineral oil once a day for the first week, once a week for the first
month after that, once a month for the next year, and then once a year (or as needed) for the rest
of the board's life. If it gets too cut up it's a simple matter to sand it smooth and start all over.
