You probably won't believe it, but i have never surfed, been on, or even touch a surf board...
Greece is all about sea & water, but surfing although it's a sport here too, it's not a lifestyle. It's rather an extreme sport for us...
We like to chill at the beach, rather than go for action sports. A LOT of people do sports of course, but it's a "category" of people. It's not like what you have there.
On the other hand, we do not have an ocean to deal with. Just the Mediterranean sea.
Even in the USA you have oceans.
We also have seasons (reaaally??) so we have to go to the sea at summer months only.
Hawaii is different. We always have it in our minds as an exotic destination, like a movie, like an unreal place.
