The entire project (!) was actually designed around this simple little detail. The "h" shaped plastic
pieces here fit perfectly on 1/2" material. Knowing that I wanted file folder hangers I carefully
measured the width of the hangers and designed the rest of the cabinetry so that it would all fit as shown.
