Golden George Washington

Boise, ID

It took Charles Ostner, who was a toll bridge operator, four years, working after dark by torchlight, to carve this equestrian statue out of a ponderosa pine tree. It was later covered in gold.

Carved of Idaho wood and given to the then-territory of Idaho in 1869.
