The Ballard Smoke Shop has a rich history in Ballard: Tommy Economou opened the Smoke Shop in 1971 in the building that was once home to The Looking Glass Parlour. The Looking Glass dates all the way back to the 1930s.

One of Ballard's beloved dive bars, the Smoke Shop closed during COVID but was purchased and reopened in 2022. It remains a go-to spot for well whiskey, a cheap can of cold beer, and some locals. A sign next to a brass bell warns if you ring the bell you're buying a round for everyone.
