Mabton, WA
Located on two acres of land, the building was constructed in 1911 at a cost of $30,000 — almost three-quarters of a million dollars in today’s currency — when Mabton was a prosperous farming community and a stop along the Northern Pacific Railroad.
The 2 1/2-story Mission Revival-style edifice contained seven classrooms, an auditorium and a principal’s office, and became an accredited four-year high school in 1913.
But in the 1920s, Mabton’s growth began to slow, as railroad and irrigation improvements shifted commercial business toward Grandview and Sunnyside and a fire in 1926 leveled several buildings in town.
The high school closed in the 1960s, following years of school district consolidation as population declined.
Oh, and it's haunted... of course.
