USS Triton Sub Surfaces

Richland, WA

In 1960 the USS Triton (SSRN/SSN-586), a radar picket nuclear submarine, became the first submarine to circumnavigate the globe completely underwater. Its conning tower and sail superstructure were saved after the sub was scrapped and recycled, stuck in the ground in a park along the Columbia River in 2011.
