Random Wood Sculptures

North Bend, OR

Along a random stretch of Hiway 101 is a field filled with scraps of old weathered pieces of wood. This became the home of various random wood sculptures, presumably created on a whim by whoever felt the urge. One particular sculpture - that of a fierce-looking piranha with pointed teeth and a life preserver for its pitiless eye - was well known and sought out. Unfortunately, it decayed over the years and was perhaps dismantled by subsequent visitors. Nothing remains of the feared fish. Sculptures come and go over time in this location. Currently there is only an ATV sculpture with a flag on the back. Some think the pop-up wood sculpture trend might be coming to an end.
