This unique landscape feature certainly lives up to its name. The Butte is roughly 350 feet high. This is fruit country, so much of the cultivated land on the hill behind the butte is orchards. The butte, which resembles a lizard basking in the summer sun, is the site of the Lizard Butte Sunrise Service, which began on April 17, 1938.
The Lizard Butte Sunrise Association pooled its resources more than six decades ago to erect a large cross that remains on the property today [It's stuck onto the head of the lizard].
