Not really John Wayne, but a lanky cowboy sign whose artist was certainly inspired by him.
Originally constructed in 1954 and originally located west approx. 1/4 mile and across the street from current location. Moved to current location in 1960 to newly built Stewarts's Market. Constructed of Marine plywood attached to metal frame work. Supported by two old light poles. Re-surfaced (over existing plywood) with lexan-type covering in 1992 under new store ownership. Addition of face "similar" to John Wayne is more recent.
