Joso Bridge

Starbuck, WA

The longest and highest railroad bridge on the Union Pacific Railroad system, the historic Joso Bridge spans the Snake River Canyon. Standing roughly 261 feet above the bottom of the Snake River, the bridge has 55 spans and is 3,920 feet long. After the construction of the Lower Monument Dam in 1968, water submerged the lower portion of the bridge piers leaving only 194 feet between the top of the bridge and the surface of the river.
