Eye-Rolling & Blinking Indian Sign

Wenatchee, WA

Large colorful painted metal sign of an Indian Brave. The sign used to mark the location of the Skookum Apple Warehouse and Packing Plant in Wenatchee. When the warehouse was torn down the sign was saved and now adorns an Office Depot store in Wenatchee. Possibly no longer has a power supply as the eyes were not moving and it wasn't blinking.

The sign was built in 1921 when it sat atop the old Wenatchee Hotel. Currently owned by Blue Bird, Inc., the sign was taken down in 2022 for refurbishing, and ultimately disassembled and stored. Per the company president, "The Skookum sign was part of Wenatchee’s past that was enjoyed by many but also viewed by others with concern.”
