Charlie the Tuna Statues

Charleston, OR

Everyone's favorite pre-packed tuna spokesfish, adopted as a town mascot and rendered in wood. There are actually two statues, seemingly unrelated. One particularly rough-looking Charlie stands in front of the Charleston Visitor Center and the other across the bridge on the other side of the inlet. In 2008, the latter Charlie Tuna statue was abducted by local teens, who turned him into a bonfire. There was a formal mourning parade for the beloved mascot, and a public service for his recovered remains. The community of Charleston banded together and commissioned a replacement Charlie Tuna, which has been erected in its place.
