The reason to destroy a natural habitat is its limited value to wildlife . wildflower meadows are man made and wildlife has evolved with this man made environment over thousands of years. it is the the destruction of meadows over the last 70 or so years that has had such a destructive impact on our wildlife and disrupted the food chain, it is essential that we create as many of these "man made environments" as possible. Well done.

Thanks Rose. As the photos I've just posted show we have a lot of plantain in one section of the meadow - it is indeed a very interesting plant. We stripped the top soil off using a digger rather than herbicide, which is my preferred route.

It seems a bit odd to destroy a natural habitat and to put herbicidedes on it in order to start a natural habitat. I am though very interested in your natural plant mixes.
They still have feilds full of the plants you mention in the country side i know here in Spain.
One of the reasons for grazing the meadows heavily here in Spain is that it reduces the strenth and hold of grasses and so allows other plants like plaintains to grow, Plaintains must be a valuable food for live stock.i have them mentioned as a salad plant which contains vitamin b in a book i have on edible plants. rose.
