Another year of tracking the birds at Andrew Haydon Park. From April 1st 70 species
have been photographed/seen by our small group. I'm sure birders with scopes saw more
on the river and some warblers have been missed for sure. This count is well below
last year's 82 species. There never was any "beach" at the river all summer or fall
after the devastating spring flood so very few shore birds are in the count. It was
the first year since I've been at the park (1978) that there wasn't a single Killdeer.
However,I did get pictures of the Great Egret catching minnows on the flooded lawn!

This is the park today. A juvenile Red-tailed Hawk was chased from tree to tree by crows
until he finally left so there are still a few birds around but they move to the neighbourhood
bird feeders soon.
