It should be easy to photograph something larger than an elephant and which hasn't moved for hundreds of years. Photographing forests well is, however, suprisingly difficult. Finding a composition with just the right level of complexity is often nearly impossible. And when any direct sunlight is present, the dynamic range usually exceeds what modern cameras can capture in a single exposure. Here, alone in Yosemite's Merced Grove, I captured the first light of the morning as it illuminated a stand of three enormous trees. Hopefully your eyes will be drawn from the foreground, across the glowing redwoods and into the lush green forest in the background.
